JUDITH HILL TO HEADLINE BENEFIT CONCERT
Join us Saturday, October 9, 2021 for our virtual 11th annual In Concert with Caminar benefitting Caminar’s Behavioral Health Equity Fund!
In Concert with Caminar is a complimentary virtual event open to everyone!
Our headliner, Judith Hill, is a Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Los Angeles, CA, praised by Rolling Stone for her “stellar powerhouse vocals.” She was one of the final musicians to be mentored by Prince, who co-produced her debut album Back In Time. Hill is an accomplished artist who has worked closely with legendary talents Spike Lee and George Benson, toured with Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Ringo Starr, and was an official tour opener for John Legend and Josh Groban.
INEQUITY WILL NOT GO AWAY WITHOUT BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CARE FOR ALL WHO NEED IT
Caminar’s Behavioral Health Equity Fund was created to continue our response to the urgent behavioral health needs of the Bay Area’s underserved populations.
COVID has had a profound effect on the behavioral health of Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) communities; essential workers; and those insecurely housed.
Often without adequate insurance or income for behavioral health care, individuals in those communities experience enduring emotional suffering leading to preventable homelessness, justice system involvement, and hospitalizations. Access to behavioral health care could change that trajectory. Behavioral health care plays a crucial role in reducing homelessness, incarcerations, and hospitalizations. It also bolsters people’s ability to engage with family, school, work, and primary care – and creates lasting economic and health benefits for individuals, families, and the community.
JEN FINDS HEART AND HOME AT BLACKBIRD HOUSE
“I moved out here and I got into an abusive relationship and things just kind of spiraled,” she said of that relationship and some of the choices that led to incarceration and other inner struggles. “My self-esteem was shot and once you get into the system it’s really hard to get out.”
She was eventually referred to counseling services at Caminar, which is where she learned about Blackbird House. “When I first went there and found out that I could go back freely and I thought, who wouldn’t want to come back? It’s like an Airbnb — I just love it there! I love meeting new people, doing projects and feeling comfortable and accepted to just be myself.”
