“I had just left a domestic violence situation, which was the reason I was at risk of being unhoused. I was in an apartment that I now had to pay for myself, and I couldn’t afford it on my own. I started working at Popeye’s to make ends meet. While I was there, I had family situations that were trying to disturb me at work, so it really started to increase my anxiety and PTSD, so I had to quit.
I started looking online for any type of program that could help with rental assistance so that I could remain in my unit. I was looking online and had contacted a couple of organizations. I found Resource Connect Solano and went to their office. I met with DeAndre Richard (Dre) and he told me about the rental assistance fund that they had. We completed a rental assistance application, but it was denied because I didn’t have any income to maintain the unit on my own after the assistance was paid. I had a notice to vacate my unit within 14 days. Dre connected me to a Coordinated Entry Specialist and after a little bit of time, I received a call from Caminar’s Fair Haven Commons team telling me that me and my two children had been referred to these apartments. We were houseless at that time, so I called Resource Connect Solano to thank them, and they connected me with the City of Fairfield Homeless Services Division that provided a hotel room for me and my kids until the lease process was completed at Fair Haven Commons.
I couldn’t believe all the help I was getting. All these services here in Solano I was connected to were amazing. It really took all of the stress away going through this process.
Now that I’m living in my apartment, my kids and I feel so much better. We feel safe, especially after being in a DV situation, and have a routine. I can now focus on my kids and providing for them. My case manager at Caminar’s Fair Haven Commons helped me and my family get connected benefits and other things. I can prioritize health and medical now not having to be outside or worry about where I am going next. We were able to make dentist appointments, which was one of the things me and my kids needed that we weren’t able to do when we were in our situation.
I’m extremely grateful for all of the Caminar services that helped me. I’d be lost without them.”
